SSGT. Donovan Blaze Walters, 28, passed away unexpectedly on October 30, 2019. He was a graduate of Kentwood High School. Donovan or "Blaze" as he was known by some, was currently serving his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was an Artillery Mechanic or “Gun Doc” for short, was part of OEF in Afghanistan, was deployed to Okinawa, Japan and was stationed in Chattanooga when the Naval Reserve Center was attacked on July 16th 2015. While stationed in Albany GA, he shot a perfect score, breaking the current high score with a pistol. Dono always took on the challenge of Toys for Tots for all of his duty stations, and had just recently celebrated his 10th year in the Corps.
Dono was a true follower of the Bushido, he was Just, Courageous, Benevolent, Polite, Honest, Honorable and Loyal. His passions were the Corps, family, cooking, surfing, writing poetry, shooting, dog training, the Sounders/Seahawks and was a published author of two poetry books. The ocean was his love and he had plans with his wife Ashley to open a restaurant by the ocean after he retired from the Marine Corps. Everything he did he excelled at. He was an incredible husband, father, son and friend. There was no one who didn't love our Wally. His favorite quote, was "service is its own reward", it was how he lived.
